About Dr. Read
Dr. Read is a general-audience education app that provides reading practice support for printed text you choose to scan or select. The app can prepare page photos, extract and structure text, listen to live reading, answer questions based on selected text, and speak tutor responses aloud.
Dr. Read is a reading companion, not a substitute for a parent, teacher, tutor, educational professional, medical professional, therapist, lawyer, or other professional. Dr. Read may make mistakes, and generated answers should be reviewed with appropriate judgment, especially when used by or with minors.
Accounts and Sign-In
You may need an account to use Dr. Read. You are responsible for maintaining access to your sign-in method, protecting your device and credentials, and all activity that occurs through your account. You agree to provide accurate account information and to use Dr. Read only for lawful purposes.
Dr. Read is not directed to children under 13. Children under 13 should use Dr. Read only with involvement and supervision from a parent, guardian, teacher, or other responsible adult using an adult-managed account. If you allow a child or another person to use Dr. Read through your account or device, you are responsible for that use.
You can delete your Dr. Read account in the app from Profile > Delete Account. Deleting your Dr. Read account removes backend account data handled by Dr. Read, but it does not cancel any active App Store subscription.
Free Access and Dr. Read Plus
Dr. Read may offer limited free use. Free limits may include a limited number of reading sessions, page limits, session duration limits, feature limits, account limits, or other restrictions shown in the app. We may change free limits or available features over time.
Dr. Read Plus is available as an auto-renewable subscription. Payment is charged by Apple to your Apple account at purchase confirmation. Monthly plans renew each month and annual plans renew each year unless canceled at least 24 hours before the end of the current billing period. Your Apple account may be charged for renewal within 24 hours before the end of the current billing period.
You can manage or cancel Dr. Read Plus in App Store settings. If you cancel, you may continue to have access until the end of the current paid period. Deleting the app or deleting your Dr. Read account does not cancel Apple billing. Refund requests are handled by Apple according to App Store policies.
Your Content and Permissions
You are responsible for the pages, photos, text, audio, questions, answers, and other content you provide to Dr. Read. You represent that you have the rights, permissions, or other lawful basis needed to use that content with the app and to allow Dr. Read and its service providers to process it as described in these terms and the Privacy Policy.
Do not use Dr. Read to process content that is unlawful, harmful, abusive, invasive of another person's privacy, or that you do not have the right to use. Do not upload, scan, read, or ask Dr. Read to process content in a way that violates copyright, privacy, publicity, confidentiality, school, workplace, platform, or other rights or rules that apply to you.
You keep ownership of content you provide. You grant Dr. Read a limited, non-exclusive right to process, transmit, store, analyze, transform, and display that content as needed to operate, secure, support, and improve the app, including preparing pages, extracting text, checking quality and safety, understanding live audio, answering questions, speaking tutor responses aloud, providing support, and enforcing these terms.
AI, OCR, Speech, and Audio Services
Dr. Read uses automated systems and service providers to operate reading sessions. These may include OCR and page-preparation services, speech-to-text services, AI tutoring and reasoning services, text-to-speech services, hosting services, authentication services, and subscription services.
Before Dr. Read sends reading-session data to AI, speech, OCR, or tutoring providers, the app asks for permission and explains what will be sent. If you do not allow AI processing, you will not be able to start a live reading session that requires those providers.
Dr. Read's AI, speech, OCR, and tutoring providers may include Microsoft Azure AI services, Google Gemini, Mistral AI, Deepgram, DeepInfra, ElevenLabs, and FAL. Dr. Read also relies on Apple, Firebase, Google Sign-In if selected, RevenueCat, and Microsoft Azure hosting services. Third-party services may have their own terms and privacy policies.
Generated Answers and Tutoring Output
Dr. Read uses automated systems to provide reading support, questions, hints, explanations, pronunciation feedback, and answers based on selected text and live session context. Generated output may be incomplete, inaccurate, delayed, unavailable, or inappropriate for a particular reader or situation.
You should not rely on Dr. Read as the only source for important decisions, assessments, diagnoses, educational plans, legal decisions, medical decisions, safety-related matters, or other professional judgments. A parent, guardian, teacher, tutor, or other responsible adult should review Dr. Read's output when appropriate.
Content Safety and Session Limits
Dr. Read may check selected text, page photos, transcripts, questions, and session content for quality, safety, technical compatibility, entitlement, or policy reasons. Dr. Read may refuse, block, limit, stop, or fail to prepare a session if content cannot be processed reliably, appears unsafe for the service, violates these terms, triggers service-provider protections, or creates risk for users, service providers, or Dr. Read.
Dr. Read may not provide detailed reasons for every blocked or failed page or session. You may be asked to retake a page, remove a page, choose different text, retry later, or contact support.
Acceptable Use
You agree not to misuse Dr. Read. This includes attempting to access another user's account or data, interfering with app security or operation, reverse engineering the app except where allowed by law, bypassing free limits or entitlement checks, using automated systems to overload the service, probing or attacking backend services, scraping, copying, or redistributing service outputs at scale, or using Dr. Read for unlawful, abusive, deceptive, harmful, or rights-infringing activity.
You agree not to submit content that you know or should know is unlawful, harmful, exploitative, invasive of privacy, or outside your rights to use. You also agree not to use Dr. Read to generate or support harassment, abuse, deception, exploitation, or other harmful conduct.
Privacy
Your use of Dr. Read is governed by our Privacy Policy, which explains what information the app collects, how it is used, when it is shared with service providers, and the choices you have.
Dr. Read Rights
Dr. Read, including its design, software, name, logo, features, prompts, workflows, models integrations, website, documentation, and related materials, is owned by its developer or licensors and is protected by intellectual property and other laws. These terms do not transfer ownership of Dr. Read to you. You receive only the right to use the app as allowed by these terms and the applicable App Store rules.
You may not copy, modify, distribute, sell, lease, sublicense, or create derivative works based on Dr. Read except as allowed by law or with our written permission.
Availability and Changes
We may update, suspend, limit, or discontinue Dr. Read or any feature at any time. Reading sessions may be unavailable, delayed, or interrupted because of network conditions, App Store services, third-party providers, maintenance, account status, safety checks, entitlement checks, or technical issues.
We may update these terms from time to time. If changes are material, we will update the "Last updated" date and may provide additional notice in the app or on our website. Your continued use of Dr. Read after changes become effective means you accept the updated terms.
Termination
You may stop using Dr. Read at any time. We may suspend or terminate access to Dr. Read if we believe you have violated these terms, created risk for other users or the service, used the app unlawfully, attempted to bypass service protections, or caused technical, legal, or security risk.
Sections that by their nature should survive termination will continue to apply, including ownership, user-content permissions, disclaimers, limits of liability, privacy-related provisions, payment-related provisions, and dispute-related provisions.
Disclaimers
Dr. Read is provided "as is" and "as available." To the fullest extent allowed by law, we disclaim warranties of any kind, whether express, implied, or statutory, including implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, title, non-infringement, accuracy, availability, reliability, and security.
We do not guarantee that Dr. Read will be uninterrupted, error-free, secure, or available at any particular time, or that OCR, transcripts, generated answers, pronunciation feedback, content-safety decisions, or tutor responses will be accurate, complete, or suitable for your needs.
Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent allowed by law, Dr. Read and its developers, owners, service providers, licensors, and partners will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, lost data, loss of goodwill, service interruption, device issues, subscription issues, or other intangible losses arising from or related to your use of Dr. Read.
To the fullest extent allowed by law, Dr. Read's total liability for claims arising from or related to the service will not exceed the greater of the amount you paid to Dr. Read for the service in the three months before the event giving rise to the claim or one hundred U.S. dollars. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations, so some of these limits may not apply to you.
Third-Party Services
Dr. Read relies on third-party services such as Apple, Firebase, Google Sign-In, RevenueCat, Microsoft Azure hosting and AI services, Google Gemini, Mistral AI, Deepgram, DeepInfra, ElevenLabs, and FAL. Those services may have their own terms and privacy policies. We are not responsible for third-party services that we do not control.
Apple Standard EULA
Unless separate custom terms are provided in App Store Connect, Dr. Read uses Apple's standard licensed application end user license agreement: Apple Standard EULA. These terms supplement that EULA to the extent allowed by Apple and applicable law.
Governing Law and Disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of the United States and the state where Dr. Read's developer is organized or primarily located, without regard to conflict-of-law rules, except where consumer protection laws require otherwise. You and Dr. Read agree to try to resolve disputes informally first by contacting support@drread.com.
